This online class is for those who have some experience with music (i.e. understands the very basics of music notation, typically learned in the first year or so of private lessons or school band/choir classes). If you have no experience with music, please consider signing up for one of the other beginner classes or private lessons offered!

Syllabus:

Many lessons will include aural skills and ear training.

Lesson 1 - Review of basic music notation.

Lesson 2 - Major scales, major key signatures, and the circle of fifths.

Lesson 3 - Natural minor scales and minor key signatures.

Lesson 4 - Intervals.

Lesson 5 - Triads.

Lesson 6 - Scale degrees and Roman numerals.

TWO WEEK BREAK

Lesson 7 - Review and questions.

Lesson 8 - Triad inversions.

Lesson 9 - Writing triads in four parts.

Lesson 10 - Voice leading.

Lesson 11 - Writing your own four-part composition.

Lesson 12 - Final review.
